Students in Amanda Fruend’s Life Skills class at Carlyle High School have begun to

create freeze-dried candy to sell to students and teachers in early October.

Last week, they passed out free samples to the students and teachers and then surveyed

them through Google Classroom to find which candy they were most interested in buying.

Fruend said that freeze-drying candy takes around three to four hours, depending on the

type of candy.

This month, they plan on selling freeze-dried Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, and Airheads, but

they plan to vary the candy each month in hopes of offering something new each time.

Fruend said they also plan to experiment with freeze-drying popsicles.

The money they earn from selling the candy will be used to pay for field trips and

supplies.
