41 Carlyle High School students traveled to McKendree University on Jan. 8 to compete
in contests and listen to speakers during the Southwestern Area Conference.
This opportunity was open to all Carlyle FBLA members who chose to participate.
Many members competed by taking tests prior to the event, and others made on-site
presentations.
Abigail Gore placed first in Real Estate, but that wasn’t her favorite part of the
conference.
“Listening to the debate was really fun,” Gore said, “but going to Starbucks (on campus)
was fun, too.”
Gore is one of 18 students advancing to state for FBLA.
In order to achieve this, the members had to receive top three in their area for their
competition and at least a 50% in their event.
Carlyle’s FBLA chapter president Mary Ann Brown also competed.
“It was a great experience,” Brown said, “Everyone did really well this year.”
Brown will compete at state after placing third in the Organizational Leadership category.
Many other students will compete individually or in groups at the state level.
Kaylee Gregg, Abi Brandol, Aleah Murden placed first in their Community Service
Project.
Autumn Buehler placed first in Supply Chain Management.
Addison Kellerman placed second in Intro to Business Communication.
McKenna Salyers placed second in Customer Service.
Mabry Smith placed second in the Future Business Educator contest.
Jude Cummings and Logan Dall placed second in Financial Planning.
Kaelyn Cox placed third in Agribusiness.
Cameryn Pollmann placed third in Insurance & Risk Management.
Brooke Kleiboeker placed third in Healthcare Administration.
Matthew Mosley placed third in Intro to Business Concepts.
Shelton DuBose placed third in Intro to Marketing.
Summer Batteese placed third in Retail Management.
Samantha Volhken placed third in Intro to Public Speaking.
All qualifying students will travel to Springfield on April 10 and 11 to compete at the
Illinois State FBLA Conference.
