Kailee Gregg was elected treasurer at the Southwestern Area Conference after

campaigning and presenting to members of the Southwestern Area Future Business Leaders of

America, FBLA, in January at McKendree University.

“Running for treasurer was very stressful,” Gregg said.

She explained that candidates were required to prepare and present a speech lasting at

least two minutes to FBLA members, advisers and judges.

In addition to the speech, Gregg created a poster board to display at the conference,

highlighting her qualifications and goals for the position.

“I wanted to run for treasurer because I enjoy handling finances, and I am very skilled at

mathematics,” Gregg said.

She added that her experience managing files, emails and PowerPoint presentations

helped prepare her for the role and allowed her to gain more experience than other candidates.

Gregg believes FBLA plays an important role in preparing students for their future

careers. She said the organization helps younger members learn how to become professionals

and entrepreneurs while teaching them how to conduct themselves in the professional world.

As treasurer, Gregg shared ideas for improving fundraising within FBLA. One of her

proposals includes offering customizable items such as T-shirts, crewnecks, hoodies, hats and

cup holders. She said allowing buyers to choose their own designs, colors, and styles could

increase sales by appealing to individual preferences.

In addition to her new role, Gregg said she has been working alongside Aleah Murden

and Abigail Brandol to plan the Daddy Daughter Dance scheduled for Feb. 6.

Gregg said her experience in FBLA has helped her stay organized, communicate with

multiple committees, and remain on schedule throughout the planning process.
