The CHS Sprout Scouts teach an agriculture lesson to Mrs. Nave and Mrs. Gore’s
classrooms once a month at the Carlyle Grade School.
The Sprout Scouts are junior Mabry Smith and sophomores Avery Self, Ali Schubel, and
Sawyer Johnson.
The four students were selected due to their Supervised Agriculture Experience being Ag
Education or from competing in the Ag Education LDE.
The Sprout Scouts benefit from this program because they learn how to teach and
navigate a class with younger students.
Sprout Scouts provide this ag education program incorporation with Illinois Farm Bureau
Ag in the Classroom.
“Either we or the Ag in the Classroom coordinator Susan Klieboker comes up with the
lessons for each month. The lessons have to connect to agriculture while keeping the students
engaged,” Mabry Smith said.
