Seniors Mary Ann Brown, Karlie Gehrs, Alannah Sarclette, and Brooke Kleiboeker

recently participated in The ROE 13 Brain Games. During this academic competition, students

test their knowledge, creativity, and ability to work as a team.

The event brought high school teams from across the area together to compete in several

timed challenges.

“Brain games is exciting because it challenges you in so many different ways. It is not

just in one subject. It includes everything from math and storytelling to chemistry and physics,”

Brown said.

Because each round is different, teams must divide responsibilities among members to

finish their tasks on time.

“We divided our roles between members by using each other's strengths. If two people

were better at the building aspect, the other two would work on the story that we had to make.

We really had to divide and conquer to get all our activities done in time,” Brown said.

Students also learned important teamwork skills while competing.

“I learned how to work in a team efficiently, because everything we did was timed,”

Gehrs said.

Some rounds were more difficult than others for competitors.

“The most challenging round was the spelling test round. We had to spell words that we

have never heard of before from fantasy fictional books. This was challenging because the words

are unfamiliar and I am not the strongest speller,” Sarclette said.

Overall, the four students said Brain Games was a fun and challenging experience
